City of Fallen Angels- contains spoilers

If you haven't read it yet, COFA is the next installment in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument series. Clary and Jace, the central characters in the series are Shadowhunters, essentially, humans descended from angels, who use magical tools to kill demons and keep the bad vampires, werewolves, fae, warlocks, witches and other naughty Downworlders in check. Like all good books, the lines between good and bad blur, and we get sucked in trying to figure out whose good and bad and realise that in each person there's a bit of both (did you see the vampire diaries 'Know thy enemy' episode this week?).


So... First off I must say my opinion is extremely biased about the book. I read the first 3 books as soon as they came out and ADORED them, and although I wasn't completely satisfied with City of Glass (although that's another story), I was happy for Jace and Clary to have their end, I thought COG was a logical conclusion. So when I found out Cassandra Clare was writing another THREE books in the series, I was most unhappy. However, considering my intense loyalty towards the series, of course I had to read the next three books. Now that COFA has come out, and I have read it, I must say I am quite disappointed. I didn't think the book contained the same appeal, that the first three did, I did not find each word as compelling as in the first two especially. I think Cass Clare may have lost her way a bit, maybe enjoying the success of being a successfuly writer a bit too much and falling into the trap of losing her enjoyment in the art of writing quality, and becoming more focussed on the fame/money. I don't know, maybe I'm being too critical, but I'm sure many other die-hard fans would agree with me, that COFA is not at the same standard as previous books.


I had a feeling, once I heard CC was gonna write another 3 books that our favourite villain Sebastian would be back, and lo and behold he was, although not exactly under the same circumstances. I really really really disliked how Jace and Seb became a sort of, Jabastien..? I mean, that's gonna be so retarded in the next book! It still means Clary is sort of with her brother! Maybe I'm just hating because deep down every girl wants the happy ending, and for me, Jace/Clary together after everything they've been through would be epic. But the whole lead-up to finding out just wasn't enough in my opinion.


I liked the idea of Lilith, but thought CC didn't make enough of her, as the mother of all demons. I did like the use of Simon's mark against other people, and Simon did seem to mature quite a lot. But did anyone else find it annoying how suddenly everyone in the book is super-hot? Although I love everyone, only Luke is described as not THAT good looking, like he's just average, which lets face it, most of us are.


I did enjoy newcomer Jordan/Kyle and loved how everyone seems to have paired up, Jace/Clary (hopefully forever...) Issy/Simon (Simon seems to have finally chosen someone, now that Issy is letting him in! <3), and Maia/Jordan (totally understandable how mad she was at him).


Maybe update later, these are just my thoughts for now. :)
